When I minister… Often times I share this story that was shared with me when I first started out in ministry!
There was a contractor by name of George, who was building this huge house from the ground with all the trimmings… He had a particular guy he used as his “right hand” man. When I described this fella.. he reminded me of “HAMAN” in the book of Esther. So I called him “Haman”. He was the educated and the next man in charge… but wicked! He was often rude, obnoxious, did what he wanted when he wanted and was very disliked… and he hated his boss… Yet his “boss” couldn’t see that he chose the wrong man to put in charge of anything. He had other guys under him and had abused his power!
Haman had began to tell all kinds of lies on the boss as if he was running the show, and his boss knew nothing of the business… Haman had his eye on one of the new construction workers… his name was Darius.
Darius was punctual, loved his job, always pleasant and knew how to connect with people. Well, of course this didn’t go over well with Haman.
Out of sheer jealousy , Haman had started picking on Darius. And Darius was aware that Haman had it in for him. Darius was a Christian man and often prayed while he worked and Haman knew this. This inflamed Haman that much more.
Haman then went to the boss and fabricated that Darius was giving the work crew a hard time! George, just couldn’t believe that Darius was this disruptive. George assured Haman, that he would address the matter but something inside of George, told him to watch from afar before cutting Darius loose!
In the meantime, Haman decided that he would use “cheap materials” to build this new house and when inspection time came he knew what to hide and what level might be inspected. He wanted his “boss ” to look like a failure, so he sabotage the house every step of the way.
Darius who was well read in surveying the material and went to his boss… and said that the materials that he was using wouldn’t comply with the structure of the house. Haman told him to “beat it”… And just do what he was told to do and let him handle what is to be used….
Darius continue to pray because this guy was bad news. Poor George, loved him like a brother but couldn’t see that Haman was always sabotaging things. And George “passively” wouldn’t let his mind believe that someone who he loved like a brother would do this…
Haman was getting angry because he hadn’t fired Darius yet. George knew from secret observation that Darius was simply outstanding… and had to tell George that he thought about promoting him! That sent poor “Haman” to brink of rage and revenge!
Darius , stop badgering Haman about the materials… Haman used all the cheap and worst materials he could find and continued to finish the house with even the worst landscaping materials. He was going to bring in the final inspectors hoping George would be embarrassed and lose contracts because of the materials he purposely “switched”.
Darius knew that something bad was behind all of this … He thought George was a great boss but very naive in the men he chose to work certain projects. Time then went on… Darius saw many things that he wanted to discuss with George. He was offered another job for another contractor and decided before he left to share what he knew was wrong.
George told Darius that were going to have this huge ribbon cutting for the new house and wanted him to stop by and they will chat then!
Everyone was at the celebration… Haman was maniacal as ever… always sticking his chest out because he wanted to bring George much pain. Haman had set the sabotage in motion…his favorite Inspectors were there to let the hammer down on George.
Out of no where everyone shouted “surprise”!.. George had handed “HAMAN” HIS KEYS… He said, you have been like a brother to me… that is why I let you build your “own” house…
The end of the story… Haman went to jail… for using not only cheap but fraudulent materials faced all kinds of fines but imprisonment … Oh and Darius…Was George’s new right hand man… George “retired” he loved Darius like a son… George had given the business to Darius instead!
Haman never knew that Darius was working undercover as an “Investigative Field Inspector”… Darius knew instantly… that Haman was wicked… He knew that Haman had abused and sabotage many other structure job prior… He died in jail!
My point… A fool with too much power will corrupt. Everyone isn’t cut out for leadership and many want to believe that they are choosing the right people within their personal space. Hindsight is 20/20 and so many miss enemies because they are allowed to function as their enemies!
We must allow God to show us the truth and nothing but. Remember in the book of Esther,… No one knew the last years of King Xerxes but historians has said and believed…. was eventually poisoned by someone he knew within in his “murderous courts”!
It’s difficult to digest that someone in your camp might be dirty… or you’d think that someone loved you … only to find out they hate you!
We have to ask God sometimes to show us, what to let go and when! George knew Haman was “tainted” but couldn’t come terms that he just must bite him! In the end… look at Haman’s house?
What a fool…he built his own house by his own hands!
