inEvery now and then… life happens. Sometimes you don’t feel like talking… just listening. I know for me that is truly how it is. I am pretty much on the quiet side but I am very vocal when deem necessary.
Growing up I wasn’t limited to a certain kind of music, my family was “well” diverse in taste. People that know me… know that I enjoy my Jazz Thursday in Chicago. I feature a video every week on Twitter. It can from Sting to Nancy Wilson or Miles Davis to big band. I can go from Classical music, Opera and Jazz… This is traditionally my dinner music! And oh yeah… I love Rhythm and Blues, some oldies including the Dusties! These are generally my dinner music.
I like that my ears opened to listen to different sounds of music this motivates me! This is what expresses me but I am not limited to physically writing. Music to me is writing on my heart in musical form.
Yes, it’s true I wanted to play drums! So every now and then you might get some percussions. One thing for sure… It can motivate me into an atmosphere even if it’s Praise and Worship. My attitude about music is simply … My Passion!
You will get more music in my home more than anything. I am a listener my communication is not only with my lips! Although there are times I have to physically take a visual… Yet, there is something God puts inside of me that is called Creativity… We love to categorize things but in my mind’s eye… I see the music. Only a few can grasp that last statement.
I know that many of you think that being about Social Justice… there is no music. Wrong! There are words with a melody that has gotten our people through different times of oppression, heartache, joy and even struggle! When I post music be open enough to see… exactly what the artist is expressing…Its poetry in motion!
One every last site you will find music. I have a lot of favorites! Sometimes we need to keep quiet and just listen… and writing flows expressively… It’s okay that people might call me strange or a little out there… but I am in tune with this spirit God calls music. So stop limiting ourselves … open up your heart and listen to the music even if you think there is no sound!

Afro American History, Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Bernard LaFavayette, Dr. Cornel West, Dr. Martin Luther King, Dr. Michael Pfleger, Harry Belafonte
Simulation is defined…1)The act or process of simulating 2) A sham object or counterfeit 3) The imitative representation of the functioning of one system.
I thought about what the Afro-American Speaking Series that Pastor Pfleger has every year during the month of February Afro-American History…meant for me. It keeps me sharp… it keeps me maturing… It keeps me growing in my studies of what history has done and what it is capable of doing!
When educational and historical opportunities like these are presented to me… I absorbed every bit of knowledge, wisdom and information. I take a posture like a child to learn what my Historians and teachers have to say. I let the forefathers and mothers of the Civil Rights Movement endow me and equip me to further the journey and pass the baton to others!
I safe guard my agenda with God by keeping him first and this affirms why I am doing what I am doing and lean on that purpose. Not because I am on camera, not because I want to be seen with the latest fashions, not because a few celebrities might be here or there or this might be my lucky night to get hooked up! You will be surprise why people honestly “try to be involved”… Being at events doesn’t qualify you for being honest about why you are there. All because they are there doesn’t mean they are about “the Movement”. These are opportunists who have their angles especially for those who are about getting seen to begin with!
When you are sincere about your mission… You don’t need any person, place, or things to keep the home fires burning to do God’s will. When you have a mission from God… you know how to submit to authority without being offended because someone might have some other experience other than yours! Remember you might have your mission doesn’t necessarily mean they are really about yours!
Being connected and seen with certain people doesn’t mean a doing a darn thing. Many missions are aborted out of ignorance! Proper training keeps you from being everywhere it everyone!
It’s what you do when no one is really looking and what your real heart says about you! You don’t have to brag about who you talked to last night it’s what the end results will be. Many folks get on this bandwagon of following crowds.. Be wise, sometimes God wont allow “your mission to get off the ground, if it will ruin so many. Not understanding the timing of God will often put you in a time out until you are sincerely and willing to take the mission seriously! Surrounding yourselves with lap dogs… and not soldiers will leave you open for more attacks!
I don’t need to ride the coattails of anyone when I know that God has commissioned me to do this whether I am “recognized” or not. Or whether I am accepted among the “elite” power hungry and butt kissers!
As Nike say… Just do it!
I am amazed at people doing things just to be doing it, to out do this one or that one. Whose mission will be seen greater in the public eye? My answer… When you lack character, integrity and humility you are headed for a danger zone.
What is the plan? Where is the real strategy? Where is the training ? I don’t mean with your personal picks and chooses! This is often the downfall of many leaders. Not knowing and pruning wicked men and women out of their camp.
We have “blood suckers” in this mission and we are to be careful of what we are associated with.
I greatly appreciate people like Minister Farrakhan… who have the testicle fortitude… to be truth, to prune and the gift of telling you goodbye.
When you are that raw with the truth… you’d be surprise at who will stir up trouble and in a subtle manner try to keep your light from shining or keep their foot on your mission! Too many so-called men and women of God are connected to deadly things… spiritually and physically!
I believe myself to be taken with their struggles but I am more captivated with the “truth-telling”. This is something I respect more than anything. Don’t give your “sanitize versions, or your caramelize representation. Tell it…like it is! I see the power-hungry looking for their next photo opt posed next to spineless of the most kind. When a legend in history like Mr. Belafonte’ that was there to give it to you straight with no chaser…He also offered conflict resolution!
Mr. Harry Belafonte, Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Dr. Cornel West… mutually agreed that many of our leaders are corrupted by power and possessions, lack integrity, absent of love, up for sale, very much misinformed about what Dr. King and others endured with the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement and sold themselves out to either the highest bidder of the biggest devil. ( paraphrasing)
What better way to piggy-back on what I’ve personally observed, experienced, and what I have become even more educated on… I did my own quest of knowledge about what the” True Movement” consist of, but I still had to apply “wisdom”.
It doesn’t matter who you are and what your status might be. We still have to be very much aware of the pitfalls and the snares of our day! I was already well read when it came to church protocols and add a little Reverend to it…You might have yourself a bona-fide…church.
My heart aches when I see people who are so desperately eager to live better and sincerely want better. Yet, the people can’t seem to spot a phony when they see one. Neither can they understand when the “roof is on fire”. At times I have seen some of the “slickest” of the slick run a ruse on the struggling people. Leaders are born and not made. I know every “biblical” leader there was a process of coming into God’s own. We might not understand every dynamic, of what we are to do…what is key is that we keep moving forward and get back to basics if we have to.
Dr King and his wife Coretta… always said that they were “thrust” into the movement. God knew what his calling was before he did. I know Dr. King was gifted and anointed to carry out such an assignment. But I also, knew he had to have honest people around him… and that might have come in the way of his wife Coretta.
There are too many “opportunist” in any arena! Sadly, we no longer have the time or luxury to play games with the lives of so man who are distress economically, educationally, or any negative manner…When so many are falling by the waste side.
I publicly admitted, I had to rid of all I was told about who Dr. King was and studied the man for myself.
Oh yeah, like others I was tired being told who he was but didn’t understand exactly who he was. I too have heard others speak of him and seen many documentaries… I had to personally knuckled down to really get an idea of who the man was first and then the “Movement”!
I honestly saw Dr. King’s heart in his work, I also listen to his speeches when he started shifting into his calling full throttle… Today I question the integrity of many leaders that “say” they are continuing the journey of” I Have A Dream”… Yet, I see the “nightmares”… There seem to be lot of “smack talkers” in this social and community activism. Words are smooth as butter… and appear “slick” as Crisco.
They might say one thing and its never that long before you see exactly what they are “working” with! Unfortunately, many think just by keeping numbers , and a crowd that adore them it keeps the mission alive. In fact, in these days and times, the quickest way to severe the movement of any kind. Is when one “gets” to self-absorbed with themselves. Or their agenda has a hidden ulterior motives. Mission gets tainted “easily” when a lack of discipline and true focus is off on God on to yourselves! Regardless of what many endured during the Civil Rights Movement…they knew how to come together!
I dare to take another angle on this. How can we change this nation off of its slippery axis… when we have tares within the “Movement”. There are so many “great” leaders and many participant who really understand what the struggles bring! Christian responses should be “entirely” different from how the world responds. Yet, many will connect themselves with others because of their status, or name for the sake of fame and greed. Don’t think I am not tired of witnessing the foolishness. I get discouraged many times when I have to look at the Chicago politics that have their hands in so many pots! As a minister too many juggle with too many snakes for my taste. We already are experiencing enough down time with folks pushing their private agendas. When I realize how many counterfeits that ride on the “King” name alone that is enough to make you stop and pay attention to what in the name of God is going on? How can anyone trust what we are doing,or what we want to do when private shenanigans are breeding amongst us? When you are sincere truth fighter… Being popular will only last for so long! You must stay focused and keep your eyes on the prize. I do understand why many have to have a vacation or go on a Sabbatical every once in a while to get restructured to strategies!
History has been changed us too many times but history can also repeat itself. Who will go for us? Many have sold out in many other ways including with their stand and their silence.
I don’t buy what everyone is selling in the name of “social justice” either! I have seen the integrity of our leaders that are dwindling…The enormous egos are truly about to “blow me”… When the “pissing” contest begins.. it’s on and cracking!
People that are serious about this mission I would like to believe it’s with honor and integrity! People can say one thing but their hearts render war! I don’t care who it offends. I think our society has suffered enough with poverty, lies, lack, the ability to move forward in education, affordable housing, better careers and jobs…
I ask God to give me more love, more compassion, humility, more patience, more discernment, allow me to be wiser than a serpent but gentle as a dove, more wisdom, and more insight on the “snow jobs” . So, I can prepare myself mentally, spiritually, and physically to fight to the finish.
Some fakes and their missions you might not detect that easy… Keep watching who they really are will soon show up! Remember this… simulators. .. simulate! There is nothing like the real thing! There is something about when someone is genuine… you see the true success of humility for the call. All because the Majority rule or follow doesn’t necessarily means they have the heart or fortitude to keep this dream alive!
I rather have the right heart to stand alone than to be connected with the wrong agendas! All our missions and assignment might not be alike… But there is something a Christian should have… that should be quality, some morals, righteous standards…
And boundaries just might decide if you are “sincerely” headed in the right direction!

inI was quite sadden to hear about this…
Reverend Ira Acree cousin, Rose Mae Starnes the mother of 15 year old daughter Yasmin Acree, who disappeared 6 years ago was found dead in Oak Park. She basically grieved to death about her missing daughter whose case is still unsolved this day.
Rose Starnes, led marches, prayer vigils , passing out flyers to find out what happened to her daughter in January 2008. My heart ached “deeply” on this one!
I asked that you please keep this family and her daughter Shakelia Johnson in your prayers! God give them comfort and strength. Pray that justice is served and the Chicago Police Department solve this case .
If you have any information please contact the Chicago Police Department. I want this family to be at peace by finding out what happened to this child.

Civil Rights Movement, Community and Social Activism, Dr. Cornel West, Ministry, Philosophy, Prophetic Ministry, Racial Equality, Social Justice, spiritual maturity
On Sunday afternoon, at St. Sabina Church in Chicago. Dr. Cornel West grace us with his presence. Who do you honestly know on this planet that is so well versed in intellect, spirituality, and don’t forget his ecliptic funk style in nature! What areas he cannot cover I have yet, fail to see.
I consider Dr. West our annual travel member. When he returns to St. Sabina he comes home every year at this time. He expressed as usual his distaste for the lies told in government and even in at own back door! He isn’t intimidated by haters but insist we must “sound the clarion alarm” on ignorance that is fed to the people! He sets the tone to let you know who he is particularly concerned about. He also dispel any lies regarding why the American government does what it does and feed it to the masses!
To hear Dr. West is an experience by itself nothing can come any closer than the truth the way he expresses it! How many more like him left? That question still remains left unanswered. He expressed deep concerns about “PASSING THE BATON”…To our next generation for Social Justice and the Civil Rights Mantle. Who will tell the truth without selling out. He didn’t limit himself at exposing some of the elite who doesn’t care about the least of these. And expressed his outraged at why many of the criminals of Walk Street still walk among us without serving their debt to society for the criminal acts of and greed!
Like all ‘Generals’ who begin to discern that his time is limited on so many spectrum’s. Its time we step our game up…and prepare the next generation to fight even harder because many of our people dropped the ball. Through financial gain, power and popularity… He knew many have sold us out and hide around titles , power and persuasion!
Dr. West delivers his best each time I am in his presence whether it’s at St. Sabina or any University! What can I say …A Government Prophet has delivered once again! We love you and respect you Dr. West “thanks “ for a job well done!

Civil Rights Movement, Community and Social Activism, Coretta Scott King, Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Ministry, Prophetic Ministry, Racial Equality, Racism, Social Justice, spiritual maturity
What an extraordinary human being! On last Friday, evening Pastor Pfleger had invited history to St. Sabina of Chicago for his Afro-American Speaking Series!
Dr. Bernard Lafayette, laid out history on himself, his purpose and the Civil Rights Movement. He shared his heroic but challenging experiences and his faith responses to hard displays of life with sheer love and non violence rebuttals!
I was deeply moved at his sheer honesty, practical teaching and methods of being a non violent society. He was no doubt one of the best speakers I have heard at St. Sabina with accountability and transparency.
I was more enthralled at is gifted ability to captivate your attention! Although, I prayed for numbers but when I realized that he understood “perception”. I was good! There was no way you left unchanged with all he has stood for. Also explained the purpose of being trained… and knowing what “devils” you would face!
He has book that I wish that we could all read together. IN PEACE AND FREEDOM.. MY JOURNEY IN SELMA.
Our sincere thanks to someone who is practicing what he preaches… He demonstrates character and integrity in the “True Movement” of Godly wisdom, practicality, common sense and Love!
